Your Visit

A home for live music lovers

From diehard fans, aspiring artists, and tambourine-shaking toddlers to rock legends, pop icons, and our own acclaimed orchestra, ours is a community that creates and celebrates outstanding music.

So if you’re keen to be a part of that (or to just stop by and use the free wifi – no judgement) here’s everything you’ll need to know.

When we're open

It changes from week to week, depending on what’s going on in the building, so always check here before heading our way.

You can come and go as you like when we’re open – we just stop letting people into the building about half an hour before we close.

Our cafe

You can grab a bite here whenever the building’s open. On the days when there aren’t any performances we’ll shut half an hour before the building closes. On the days when there are, we’ll shut just after the interval of the last gig or concert.

Our shop

Our shop is open from 11am Thursday to Sunday and will close jut after the interval (usually around 9.15pm). If there aren’t any shows on, the shop will close 30 minuets before the building is due to close.

On a Wednesday, the shop will open from 5pm if there is a show on that evening.

FAQs

It’s great that we’re all out and about now, but I’m still quite vulnerable to COVID – what health and safety measures have you got in place?

Being able to enjoy live music again is grand. But we know it needs to be safe for everyone – our audiences, artists, and staff. So here’s how we’re staying on top of that:

  • Keeping our spaces clean. The whole building is cleaned regularly and all our air-handling units are carefully maintained.
  • Helping people interact safely. We’ve got easy-to-spot hand sanitiser stations all across the building. And you can use contactless payment for anything you want to buy while you’re here.
  • Keeping crowds to a minimum. We’ve introduced pre-booking for interval drinks and snacks, so our bar areas aren’t too crowded.

Plus we’re always checking our measures line up with guidance from the government and public health authorities, so we’re ready to make changes if we need to.

If you’re still worried about coming to the venue, or have specific questions or concerns, the best thing to do is give us a call and we can chat about your visit.

I’m booking with a group – is there a limit to how many of us can come together?

Nope. The more the merrier.

Once I’m in the building, can I use cash to pay for things or only cards?

If you can pay using your card or your phone that’s usually quicker, but we do still take cash, so it’s fine if you prefer that.

Do you have a cloakroom?

Yes – it’s tucked in right by our Box Office, near the West entrance (on the side of the building nearest the Tyne Bridge) and it’s open whenever there’s a performance on.

There’s no charge to leave your coats and bags, but there’s a chance to donate a few pounds. We’re a charity, so anything you give helps us make sure all our live music opportunities are available to anyone – no matter their age, background, abilities, or how much money they have.

Can I bring my bag with me into the gig or concert?

Small bags are fine. But if it’s bigger than 297 x 420 mm (that’s the size of a piece of A3 paper) then you’ll need to leave it in our cloakroom.

Can I bring my drink with me into the gig or concert?

Depends how easy it is to spill. Obviously we don’t want people on the lower levels getting accidently drenched, so if you’ve got an open glass or cup then you can only bring it in if you’re on Level 1. (That goes for both our halls – Sage One and Sage Two). But if you’ve got a bottle of water or a soft drink with a screw cap, then you can take it in on any level.

Can I take pictures in the halls?

We know it will be a night you want to remember, so we’re fine with you taking pictures and videos during the performance – as long as they’re only for personal use. (If you want to use professional stuff like tripods, sound recording equipment, or SLR / DSLR cameras then you’ll need to talk to us first. Just call or email and we’ll let you know what’s possible).

The main thing is to make sure you’re not disturbing the people around you. That means turning off your flash, keeping your screen brightness nice and low, losing any shutter sounds, and not filming for too long if you’re blocking anyone’s view.

Can I smoke or vape in the building?

Nope, sorry. You can’t smoke anywhere in our building – even e-cigarettes. But there are spots just outside if you want to pop out during an interval.

What do I do if I see someone behaving in a way that’s worrying or bothering people?

We want everyone to be able to enjoy live music with us. So if anyone’s acting in a way that spoils the experience – like being intimidating or aggressive, or putting themselves or other people in danger – just let us know and we’ll ask them to leave. You can either grab a steward or talk to anyone working in our café, bars, or ticket office.

Have you got booster cushions?

Absolutely. We want everyone to be able to see what’s happening on stage. Just call or email and we’ll book one for you.

I lost something while I was in the building – what now?

Gutted. We’ll do everything we can to help you find it. Just fill out this form so we know exactly what we’re looking for and how to get in touch with you, then we’ll have a look around ASAP.
