This event is part of Art 50 Weekender, a free festival showcasing some of the 50 artistic projects commissioned by Sky Arts, exploring what it means to be British today.

An immersive performance about Birmingham, Brexit and Britishness

In May 2018, a group of artists, went out on to the streets of Birmingham to discuss the referendum and what it means to be British in a city that voted almost 50/50 in the Brexit vote.

In this brand new commissioned work, directed by choreographer Gary Clarke, This Is An Island? invites you to experience a no holds barred version of Brexit through the eyes of Birmingham residents.

Interviews, comments, actions and views have been transformed into a thought-provoking multi-sensory journey through an imagined forum, similar in structure to the House of Commons, featuring dance, spoken word, installations and film.

Produced by DanceXchange, This Is An Island? is funded by Art 50 a scheme commissioned by Sky Arts to explore the notion of British identity in the wake of Brexit.

As this is a free event please ensure you arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time to avoid disappointment. Any seats not allocated 10 minutes before the start of the event will be offered to a standby queue.

Storyvault Films Limited is recording at this venue for a programme provisionally entitled “Art 50: This is Britain” for Sky Arts and it is possible you may appear in shot. By attending this event you consent to filming and sound recording which may include you and its use in commercial distribution without payment or copyright.
