James MacMillan St Luke Passion

Forming the centrepiece of a weekend dedicated to new music, MacMillan’s St Luke Passion is flooded with influences from his Scottish heritage, Catholic faith, social conscience and close connection with Celtic folk music. This powerful and moving work from one of the great choral composers of our time unusually gives the voice of Jesus to a youth choir, and is a must for choral fans.

Pre-concert talk at 6.30pm with Sir James MacMillan.

The evening begins at 7pm, with the world premiere performance by Royal Northern Sinfonia and the New Tyneside Orchestra of a new Fanfare commissioned for Sage Gateshead’s Concourse space, composed and conducted by James Weeks.

The St Luke Passion concert in Sage One begins at 7.30pm, with two pieces performed by the New Tyneside Orchestra.
