Everybody dance! Debussy evokes ancient Greece, Stravinsky breaks open a paintbox of orchestral colours, and the brilliant young sax star Jess Gillam plays showpieces with a Latin flavour. Then it’s time to salsa, with Milhaud’s uproarious Le boeuf sur le toit.

Our pre-concert talk will be a performance. Come and listen to new works by the three finalists in our Young Composers’ Competition, and cast your vote along with the jury. Our NYNA festival continues on Saturday 19 January – stay tuned for more information.

Jess Gillam said: “I am really looking forward to performing with Royal Northern Sinfonia; it is a venue in which I have always wanted to perform. It’s also fantastic to be a part of a celebration of music and artists in this New Year New Artists programme showcasing musicians from all styles – classical to indie and folk to world! There are so many exciting innovations and ideas forming in music at the moment and it will be great to experience some of them live at a festival like this.”
