Radio 3’s weekly guide to the best available recorded music comes to Sage Gateshead. Record Review presenter Andrew McGregor is joined by Guardian music critic Erica Jeal and Kirsten Gibson, Senior Lecturer in Music at Newcastle University. In Building a Library (9.30 – 10.15) there’s a nod to the Free Thinking Festival theme of The One and the Many as Erica Jeal surveys Benjamin Britten’s 1938 Piano Concerto through its recorded history and recommends her favourite recording; and Kirsten Gibson reviews new and recent releases of 16th- and 17th-century music.

Andrew McGregor is a former violinist and countertenor who worked in the classical record industry before training as a BBC Studio manager, going on to present Radio 3’s breakfast programme, concerts, operas and Proms and for the last couple of decades Radio 3’s Record Review.
